I first heard of you mum from my sister inlaw. When we visited your house during our pastoral visits you warmly welcomed us and when I introduced myself you were elated after learning that i was a son inlaw to your friends Mr and Mrs James Ongere. "Kumbe wewe ni my son inlaw sasa, umechukua msichana wangu wa Sunday" you were referring to my wife who was your Sunday school child. You were so happy and excited. You wished us well. Fast forward to just last month when your sister rested. As we arrived at her home you were there to receive us as we were doing final preparations for her final journey. You came to the church compound as we discussed on the funeral arrangements. On the day of the funeral you spoke powerfully and presented a song, "there is not a friend like the lowly Jesus" by the way were you bidding us bye and we never saw it mama? With humour and that infectious smile you gave your tribute.
Just last week you called me and explained how happy you were after I preached on your sister's funeral. Was that to tell me you are gone and I never saw it coming. I knew you for a just a few months but you have left great memories like I have known you all my life! I see you in your children you are written all over them. You did your part mama. When I just entered that ICU room at Aga Khan I thought you were just sleeping and indeed you were, I know you'll wake up when the time comes. By the way we offered a prayer over your body because we knew and still know you are asleep and you'll wake up. I can't continue anymore. You run the race, you kept the faith you never gave up. And for that, I CELEBRATE YOU MAMA SLEEP WELL.
AMEN.
