Stanley Lowe, OBE, JP

January 24, 1938 - April 26, 2020

Mr. Stanley Lowe, OBE, JP, has been described by Premier David Burt as “a true man for all seasons.” Mr. Lowe served as a Member of Parliament from 1968 until his retirement in 2012, having served as Opposition Whip for most of his term in Opposition. He was selected as Deputy Speaker in 1995 before being selected as the first Black Speaker of the House of Assembly in1998. He served in that role till his retirement in 2012. As a member of the Parliamentary ‘Class of 68’. Mr. Lowe formed part of the anchor of Bermuda’s modern political history and served the people of his beloved Southampton East for 44 years. Sincere condolences are extended to the family and friends of Mr. Lowe. On behalf of the Government and people of Bermuda, this tribute is to commemorate and celebrate his life and legacy. He was a father, grandfather, brother, Member of Parliament, Speaker of the House, friend, Bermudian.
