I'm saddened to learn of Eldryd's death. He was one of the kindest and most thoughtful, caring people I've ever known. When I was organising an attempt to prevent the destruction of the last remaining Georgian workhouse infirmary in London (in Cleveland Street) from demolition, Eldryd helped, advising me and giving me contacts in English Heritage. It wasn't in vain as the building survived. Whenever our paths crossed in the School, he would show interest in what I was up to and delighted in telling me of his plans for improving medical education in Africa. I feel fortunate to have known him.
