Eldryd and Helen have been dear neighbours of ours for over 20 years, as well as medical colleagues. All members of our family have been so inspired by our conversations in the road or at local gatherings. I looked forward to his incisive observations, good humour, interest and advice. The carol singing he regularly organised in the local streets was a fabulous start to Christmas. I will always be grateful to THET who quite independently supported our initial Training The Trainers (TTT) project in partnership with the College of Ophthalmology of East Central and Southern Africa (COECSA). It was Eldryd's vision of the benefits of such work that has allowed me an insight into the world of overseas medicine, which he so cherished, and led to a decade of fabulous international experiences and friendships. Eldryd - all our neighbours will miss you, and you will be missed in many parts of the world - but all your good work lives on.
