Three decades ago I spent one year at the Wellcome Tropical Institute, Euston Road on a one year Fellowship in Medical Education. This was a daily interaction with the the WTI Team and a small group of young medical probationers from the African continent , Kenya, Ghana and Ethiopia amongst others. Among the outcomes was the proposal on how to deliver Continuing Medical Education through Distance Learning using Packet Radio (no other virtual technology existed then) and model competence based curriculum using Problem Based Learning approach. During each of the preceding decades thereafter Prof Parry readily and ably responded to my call for support in the setting up of new Medical Schools first at Moi University Kenya, the Orotta Medical School in Eritrea and lastly at the University of Namibia School of Medicine (2010-2020). Prof Parry was passionate about Africa, Tropical Medicine and quality healthcare delivery. Always resourceful in raising funds for these causes and supporting dependable professors. THET initiative is a living testimony. He will be greatly missed.
