Simon Edwards

April 21, 1971 - January 9, 2023

It’s with a heavy heart that I have to share some very sad news about our colleague and friend Simon Edwards. Tragically he passed away in the night from a heart attack. He was only 51 years young, and leaves a new wife and loving family. He was such a knowledgeable and experienced Solution Engineer and security transformation architect in the in the truest meaning of the role, and his passion for cyber security and understanding the motivation of the organisations behind the cybercrime was second to none. He helped mentor many employees, was a regular expert called-on to offer opinions on BBC Radio, and an example to us all in the industry, having worked at multiple major security companies over the years including Symantec and Trend Micro. Simon will be missed by all that new him; intelligent, good-natured and funny.

I first met Simon in 2016 when I and my team were acquired by Trend Micro. Simon struck me as a lovely chap and we became friends during our working time together. He was always helpful, VERY passionate about cyber and just a lovely person to work with. He later followed me to work for another company, Nominet which didn't work out too well but we maintained our friendship and enjoyed lunch a few times. Always supportive, always willing, always helpful. When e moved to Symantec to then be acquired by Broadcom it was his sentiment that convinced me I should consider coming across after IU'd been approached to join. Simon's judgement and recommendation counted for a lot. I trusted him. He endured a lot of anguish over recent years and the few lunches we had last year showed this but there was a glimmer of hope and light for him which I pleased to see. We talked camper vans, shared ideas etc. Simon my friend, you will be missed!! Rest in peace!
