Gita, Swati and Shubham
I recruited Surabh into EY and I was the Partner who was responsible for his work in our client in AIB. From the first moment that I met Suarabh what’s stuck me was what a personably and thoughtful person he was. I’ve attached an email here that I sent out in EY. Having discussed the terrible situation with Gita and Swati we will stay in touch over the coming days, weeks and months and EY will continue to do everything we can to support you. Surabh was a true gentlemen and highly valued member of the team.
All.
I’m struggling to find the right words for this email, and it’s is with a very sad and heavy heart that I am sending you this note today. Yesterday, our fellow consulting colleague and friend, Saurabh Shiralkar passed away. Saurabh had been ill for some time and took time away from work to focus on his health. Saurabh approached his illness with his characteristic positivity, bravery and determination.
Saurabh joined EY in 2018 as an experienced hire into the PPM team. Prior to joining us in EY, he had worked at Accenture, Bank of America and AT&T. After joining EY, he initially worked with the ESB PM Services team and subsequently moved into AIB where he worked in the risk domain. He built fantastic trust and respect with his peers and clients in AIB across a number of engagements including Risk Change and on the BCBS Programme.
He was a tremendous consultant, colleague, peer and friend to many of us. What set him apart was his manner and ways of engaging people in a calm, collaborative and solution focused manner. He was highly qualified and held an MBA from Cranfield University (UK), MSc in Electrical Engineering from University of Texas at Arlington (USA) and BEng in Electronics from Devi Ahilya University (India).
This is shocking and upsetting for all of us and I’m struggling to come to terms with it. For those of us that knew Saurabh, I would encourage you all to take some time away from the laptops and calls this afternoon, to process this and to remember Saurabh in your own way. It is good to chat and talk to people about it.
Myself, Alan Prout (his counsellor), Mark Brangam (engagement lead) and the PAPD team are here to support you, to chat with you and to do what we can to help each other process this. Indeed, at times like this, I think it is safe to say we are all here for each other. A reminder also of EY’s Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) confidential helpline on 1800 911 909 or website www.layaeap.ie (password: LAYAEAP). It is a free, confidential information and counselling service available to all EY staff. I would encourage you to leverage this if necessary.
The funeral is likely to be tomorrow, and we are working out the most appropriate support and representation from EY at it. We are also considering what the best way is to get together and work out how to celebrate his life and mourn his passing. He leaves a young son and wife in Ireland and our main objective will be to work out what we can do to help them at this terrible time.
Please do drop me a note if you want to chat further and please look after yourselves.
Kind regards Marcus
