Papa did hundreds of such tabletop photography projects, each of them very carefully arranged and lit in his studio. It gave him a lot of joy!
Papa Ronnie was both principal photographer and scrapbooker of the family!
One of Papa Ronnie's favourite things to do in our home studio was to make still life arrangements, light them artfully and photograph them. Aren't these lovely?
"Footprints in the Sand" is one of Papa Ronnie's favourite pieces of devotional writing. A few years ago he printed it out and put it in a family scrapbook.

The family went to listen to Namiko give a talk at the National Museum.
Ronnie labelled many of his photographs and even made scrapbooks for family holidays.
2017: Ronnie never needed to be invited twice to show off his sleight-of-hand and card tricks. Impressive how he could palm a card or a coin, accompanied by a funny expression or story to misdirect you!
Ronnie liked any excuse to visit Changi Airport - to him, the best airport in the world!
Ronnie taught teacher-trainees at the National Institute of Education.
Namiko often showed videos and photos to Ronnie - usually about what she or Koji were up to, either with work or art making.
2017: When Ronnie felt up to it, Namiko would take him somewhere for a change of scenery. Even a trip to the kopitiam was good!
Most meals are eaten at home, simply because Mama Kimie is such a great cook. But sometimes the family went out for special celebration dinners.
1970s: Ronnie was trained in film making with a variety of media. As a film student in Boston, he visited a studio and was given the opportunity to edit a segment of Hawaii Five-0 before the episode aired on TV.
Namiko says she can't remember if she took these photos or whether they were taken from a camera-mounted tripod... they're great pics!
Ronnie could fix just about any electrical or mechanical household appliance!
1997: Any occasion or no occasion was a good time for Ronnie to take out his camera and shoot. This occasion was Namiko's university graduation.
Ronnie rigged up a sophisticated home entertainment system at home, and enjoyed karaoke to the golden oldies and hymns. He had a nice bass voice!
1991: The camera was always in Ronnie's hand (or within reach), and the family his main "models"!
Ronnie took thousands of photos of the family through the years-- at home, outdoors or when holidaying overseas. He even made his own scrapbooks for special occasions!
2003: Ronnie and Kimie with the in-laws John and Laurene. They became good friends and met up regularly for makan and conversation.
Ronnie was proud of his Peranakan heritage and frequently watched Baba Nyonya entertainment shows on Youtube. Here's one that he watched often!
1980s: Ronnie was a member of the Magician's Circle for a time and enjoyed performing card tricks and sleight of hand at children's parties. He practiced hard!
For a good number of years after Ronnie's retirement from the National Institute of Education, he continued to develop his interest in videography and photography. If he wasn't out at the Zoo or Botanical Gardens, he did scale model photography in his home studio.

17 Feb 2018: CNY dinner with the in-laws. They are Ronnie's favourite people!
7 Jun 2003: Ronnie walking Namiko down the aisle on her wedding day. The ceremony was conducted by Pastor David Yap and many friends from Yio Chu Kang Chapel were in attendance. At the dinner afterwards Ronnie made a speech expressing his joy and pride in his daughter.
In Ronnie's youth he wanted to be a pilot, but never had the opportunity to train as one. He loved aircraft (both military and civilian) and built and photographed model planes. Even in his 70s he would play flight simulator games on his iPad. He took pride in taking his favourite Boeing 747 jumbo jet and its load of imaginary passengers safely from place to place!
2 Jan 2020: Annual New Year's Day osechi-ryōri dinner with the in-laws. This traditional meal comprises different symbolic, colourful and yummy foods, prepared by Mama Kimie, and served in special jūbako lacquer boxes. Ronnie is blessed with a wife who can cook very well, and who enjoys making meals of different cuisines.
24 Jan 2020: Ronnie cherished his Peranakan (Straits Chinese) roots and liked to watch Baba stage comedies on Youtube. Here he is reading the latest issue of the magazine issued by the Peranakan Association of Singapore.
10 July 2020: Ronnie believed in the rights and duties of the citizenry and cast his vote in the General Elections. He was brought to and from the nearby voting centre by daughter Namiko.
Ronnie had a qualification as an electrical engineer. He was inspired to the profession by his Uncle York Lin, who was able to take apart appliances of all kinds and put them back together again.

Papa Ronnie took his professional camera gear everywhere - including to overseas trips to visit family. These two handsome and talented young men are his nephews Colin and Thomas, in their family home in Australia.
