My favorite experience with Richie was last fall when he and I rode from downtown LA to Malibu together. It was a long car ride and Richie kept me entertained the entire time with his enthusiasm for cars and many other tales of his life pre-Jamestown (his former job as a hair stylist stands out as it was so unexpected and his anecdotes so funny). But the stories that resonated the most were those he told me about his family. He told me his family history from the beginning. He was so proud of the support his family had given over the years to so many in the community. I’ll never forget how touched I was by his tender retelling of all the accomplishments of his family, in particular his father.
