my deepest condolences to the Freeman family. Ray was a wonderful mentor and supervisor to me during my D.Phil. and also helped me get my first job. Being in his group was a privilege, an extraordinary experience, and a perfect foundation for a career working with magnetic resonance. He was always kind and considerate and had a dry sense of humor. He taught us how to do cutting edge research. I will always remember those happy days in Oxford in the 1980s.
