Professor Jim Dornan - RCSI Bahrain

February 5, 1948 - March 15, 2021

Jim was a hugely valued member of the RCSI Bahrain family and a true pioneer of both clinical and academic developments in Obstetrics & Gynaecology. Jim joined RCSI Bahrain in March 2020 as Professor and Head of the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology. Jim’s professionalism, energy, and dignity elevated any occasion. He was a true shining star, always full of life, an excellent teacher, role model and inspiration to us all. Before joining RCSI Bahrain, Jim was a Career Obstetrician & Gynaecologist at Royal Maternity Hospital Belfast, Chair Health & Life Sciences University Ulster and former Senior Vice President & International Officer for the Royal College of Obstetrics & Gynaecology. On behalf of the extended RCSI community, we extend our deepest sympathies to Jim’s wife Samina, his children and grandchildren.

    ROSIANE PIMENTEL

Santo Agostinho

I first met dr Dornan in around 1984 as my late mother Hilda Gilmour babysat the odd week end night for the family Jamie was only a toddler and his mother gave me all her maternity clothes as I was pregnant with my first daughter. Years later when pregnant with my second daughter and was told there were some complications and I was worried sick My mother spoke to Jim on my behalf for advice I don't remember if he rang me personally but he told me everything would be ok so I have him to thank for the safe arrival of my second daughter. Years and years later my eldest daughter was seen by Jim and I went along and I told Jim who I was about my late mother and the story about his advise he said what a lovely story and he got a shiver down his spine about it as all ended well. I got the pleasure to meet Jim two more times in his professional role in recent years he has such a lovely bedside manner. Both my daughters and myself were saddened to hear of his passing We will always have found memories of a wonderful man Condolences to the family Diane Walker nee Gilmour And daughters Jackie and Ciara Hewitt
