Seldom in my life have I met someone I so aspired to be like (with the exception of the state of your desk, surrounding floor area, neighbouring desks, etc.). Patient, caring, kind, wise, insightful and seemingly effortlessly at the very top of your game. I could write on the back of a postage stamp what you didn't know about tax, and that's probably the stuff not worth knowing. You brought with you an aura of calmness and reassurance that was like a comfort blanket shared by all. One quick chat with you (probably your umpteenth of the day...) and I went away feeling immediately better about whatever, now trivial, issue was on my mind. And it never, ever felt like it was burden to you. If you didn't truly enjoy taking time out of your incredibly busy schedule to help me, it certainly never showed. They say patience is a virtue. Well, that must make you one of the most virtuous men to have walked the planet, because you had it in bucketfuls. I had the pleasure - and it was a pleasure - of being your financial adviser for nearly three years, and I feel lucky to have heard you talk about your family and home life as well as the usual shop talk. Perhaps the saddest part about that relationship is that I was helping you to make plans which will now never be fulfilled. A truly tragic loss, which I'll admit has affected me more than I could have anticipated. You have left an overwhelmingly positive and lasting impression on me, and so many others, that's unlikely to fade for many, many years to come. And in that, your memory lives on.
