TRIBUTE TO A FRIEND IN A MILLION: ERIC ABIDAKUN
As the philosophers would say, life is indeed, like a journey on a train. Each passenger disembarks at his or her own destination! It is painful that Eric Abidakun has departed at this point. Death is the proverbial indebtedness that all human must pay at some point. However, it is not how long, but how well we spent our span of life that matters most. It is not how much wealth or fame one accumulated, but rather how one was able to impart positively on the life of others - especially one's immediate family, siblings, friends and acquaintances.
Eric, as I fondly called him, demonstrated all the fine attributes of a cordial and undeletable personality right from our childhood days when as classmates in Ansar Udeen High School, Ikole Ekiti where we became bossom friends. The trio of myself, Eric and Late Sunday Adeboje (an indigene of Ikare Akoko) were inseparable in spite of the fact that we all came from different Communities and backgrounds. Our friendship continued even after our secondary education in 1965. As luck we have it, we met again in Lagos. Eric was employed by Glaxo a Pharmaceutical company along Creek Road Apapa while I was also employed by Government Coastal Agency, a department of the Federal Ministry of Transport at No. 3, Creek Road, Apapa.
I cannot forget in a hurry the immense contribution of Eric to my venture into business in 1973 when he joyfully introduced me to his Boss in purchasing Department of Glaxo as a supplier of stationary items. It was from this modest beginning that I grew a business empire - Agbogbo conglomerate.
Eric Abidakun left for the United States of America for further studies thereafter. He, however, visited me each time he was in Nigeria and we kept close relationship till his demise.
Happily, Eric was very passionate about the Almighty God and he exhibited all the ethics and ethos of a good Christian. He served God fervently and diligently without blemish till the end.
Eric, rest on in the bossom of the Lord till the resurrection day when we shall meet to part no more.
