During these recovery efforts, I had countless opportunities to observe Norma’s unrivaled technical abilities and professionalism. Not only was Norma a step ahead of the vendors and was always leading the drive for her team, Norma was so aware of people and so effective with different types of personalities in a way that truly amazed and inspired me. Her gifts in this arena are truly rare. I was fortunate to have spent a lot of time on the phone with Norma. Those outages that happen during the middle of the night, or on weekends, yes, Juan Carlos, I was one of those people paging Norma. Sorry, just doing my job  But during those calls, there are lulls between the vendor’s investigation efforts and activities. These were the opportunities where I got to know Norma on more of a personal level. This is where Norma helped me learn more about my own Mexican heritage, being 2nd generation / born in the US. This is where I became aware of Juan Carlos, as your name would be brought up frequently in our conversations. Whether it was a mention of her concern for you at her being paged again at such a late hour. Or of upcoming plans you two had for the upcoming day. Or a meal or experience you had shared. Back in 2013 there was a work conference or training in Minneapolis and a lot of people gathered at Chammp’s at Ridgedale. Sorry everyone, but my Norma was at the top of my list of people I wanted to meet in person. My thoughts and prayers are with those closest to Norma, especially to Juan Carlos. (I’m in the middle)
