Dear Barbara, Greg, Megan and Ben, Samantha and Laura , Andrew and Skye, Jacob, and Jonathan, There are no words. You have lost husband, Father, grandfather We have all lost a friend, and the world feels a little darker without the light that Matthew shone on us all with such generosity. Here are some Images from the wonderful times we shared. Despite living on different continents, we just picked up where we had left off each time we met. Each meeting felt like a gift. You are in our thoughts and hearts, With much love from Mike, and love from Tammy, Samuel, Margaret, Dodo and Zoe
An intense 5 years during our Masters in Town Planning Course - we 3 were joined at the hip for those years. Matthew was a huge influence for me and frequently talked me out of quitting - I shall ever be grateful to him and Jill. He was an exceptional person, more than a friend in those years - very special memories
I met Matthew working together s volunteers on the board of CapitalPlus Exchange. In my life and career I have met few people who have the creativity, strategic mindset and brilliance for organizational development, development strategy and impact planning. Matthew always thinks several steps ahead, looks at scenarios through and asset frame and asks the questions that spark innovation and generative thinking in others. His warmth real care for other people built relationships of trust and real friendship with people form across the globe. Even though we never spoke of it, I learned so much bout leadership from watching and listening to Matthew that I consider him a mentor. Rebecca and I so loved getting to know Matthew and Barbara. We are holding you in our prayers.
One of Matthew's favorite pics that he shared across the oceans, and its obvious why
so many wonderful times together whenever and wherever we met
What a man. I had the pleasure of knowing Matthew for short 4 years, but during that time of road trips (he drove fast), city visits (he knew his food and wine) cycling (he tried but never totally destroyed me), long evening chats or Zooms (great sense of humour) he made me feel welcome and a friend. So much to appreciate, admire and enjoy, the sense of loss is huge.
When a man marries your best friend he can become one of yours and Matthew was that for me. He had the ability to make everyone he interacted with feel so special. The reality that we will not realise the plans we made for our next get together across the globe only heightens the loss Rick and I feel of the man we both love and admire. Fortunately I have 45 years of intermittent memories and still have his beloved Barbs in my life. RIP dearest Matthew
