Dear Barbara, Greg, Sam and Andrew; and Jo We are sending love, and very many thoughts for the loss of Matthew, whom we will always remember as a fun loving, witty and incredibly kind man who at the same time contributed so much to South Africa. Before I met Matthew in 1980, David told me about him: "David and Marsha lived in the 1960s in Salisbury (Rhodesia at the time) which they thought was very old fashioned and always liked, as teenagers, staying with their fashionable 'modern' cousins in Joburg: Jo, Marian and Matthew. David and Matthew seemed to hit it off and Matthew trusted David enough to show him his favourite book in his book shelf (Prisoner of Zenda ??). He opened it and there was a carefully cut out rectangular space where the pages had been cut to a perfect size for the cigarette box that he concealed there! They had many laughs about that" We will miss him, but can only begin to imagine what emptiness will be in your lives; I am sure that the many memories will keep you always connected with him love Sue Ben Lisa and Oscar
