It's truly heart breaking to know that Matt is no longer with us.
Matt was a very well-regarded and much loved member of the Liverpool professional community, a friend to many and a big contributor to our weekly advisers calls during lockdown, he was a key member of the Wednesday morning Zoomers, always generous with his thoughts and advice and always happy to share and support the group as we all got our heads around the changes to the insolvency rules during lockdown.
But first and foremost Matt was a gentleman, one of life’s amazing people and a huge source of knowledge and insight for us all, always happy to help and support everyone on the call and not just in lockdown but also over the many years a number of us have had the pleasure of knowing him.
Some of us had the pleasure of knowing Matt for several years and in some cases even longer whereas for others our weekly Zoom calls during lockdown were the first opportunity they’d had to meet Matt and get to know him.
What has been truly humbling since Matt's passing is just how many people have got in touch with me, from the Zoomers, from within Weightmans and from the wider business community, to not only express their shock at Matt’s death but to also say what a thoroughly decent bloke Matt was, a lovely man and how much of a pleasure it was to have known Matt.
Matt’s passing is not only desperately sad on a personal level but to lose a heavyweight professional such as Matt, someone with Matt’s years of experience and someone who touched so many different aspects of business and gave so much of his time to others, is also a huge blow to the professional community.
We will all take a moment to reflect on Matt’s life and the good times we shared with him. Matt was one of life’s amazing people, he came across as a wonderful man who I know will be sorely missed and fondly remembered by all of us who were fortunate enough to know him.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Matt's wife Sue, their children and family, friends and colleagues.
Matt will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him but Matt will never be forgotten.
