I am so sad to write this and I am just lost for words. You will be incredibly missed by the team. I will miss your professionalism, incredible attention to detail and your sense of humour. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the support regardless of how silly my questions were. You always had time for people despite how awfully busy you were. Thinking of you and wishing you peace and comfort. Xxx Sam - My sincerest condolences for your incredibly great loss. I wish you strength to get through this difficult time. xxx
We are all shocked and saddened to have lost an original member from our circuit gang. Mark attended circuits at the YMCA Watford since 1984. I feel like we have lost a family member, but we are lucky to have many great memories of Mark on social nights out. He will always be remembered by the circuit crowd fondly. As soon as we are all able to meet on a Thursday night beer, we will raise a glass to a dear friend. Condolences to Sam and Mark’s family. Peter Brotherston
It's the little things like Mark's cup a soup addiction and dog owning anecdotes as well as big things like his generosity of time and spirit to everyone - customers, colleagues and friends - that sum him up for me. Chatting during lockdown when he insisted on being present for the team while we sorted out laptops and he looked after everyone making the shift. He lived for his family and I'm honoured to have been part of his work family from the early CSTM times. The world is a poorer place without you mate. I'll be raising a Golden Vegetable soup in your honor.
I feel incredibly fortunate to have worked with Mark while I was at Ocado. Mark was in the first team I joined – we started off as just desk neighbours but quickly became unlikely friends. Every morning I’d come in and Mark would already be at the desk to say good morning; he was the person who taught and mentored me in my role; the person I’d turn to for question for advice. One of the few days Mark came in later than me was Halloween, when he strolled in dressed head to toe as a vampire (fake fangs and all!) to everyone’s surprise and thrill! We had such a laugh about his incredibly spontaneous costume – it was best in the office in my opinion! Even when we weren’t working in the same team, Mark always took the time to check in and how I was doing and say hello. He’d have to walk past my new desk to go to the kitchen and MANY times I’d see Mark go for a cuppa and go to join him for quick chat. Mark was an incredibly kind and generous person who genuinely cared – when he asked you how your day was, he meant it. He was a calm presence who guided and supported others, always with a smile on his face. I will forever hold fond memories of everyday moment with Mark – laughing about all the packet soups in his desk drawer, discussing his upcoming trips or walks with his wife & dog, and his surprising knowledge of UK grime music! You will be missed by so many Mark, and the world is a slightly less bright place without you. My thoughts go to all Mark’s family & friends
I worked with Mark on the Group People Services Leadership Team and sat at a desk behind him. Mark and I were often left late in the office which is when I mainly had my conversations with him about what his plans were for dinner and about him walking his beloved dog. Just simple conversations at the end of a very busy day which I miss. He was a very conscientious person always wanting to do his best for his team and work colleagues and would not leave until he had completed his task. He would always genuinely ask about my welfare which was always appreciated. During the busier times of the day I would observe Mark being very busy but always having a smile on his face and helping everyone who needed his assistance with patience and understanding and always having others best interests at heart. He will be sadly missed by myself and he rest of the Ocado family. My thoughts are with his family.
Very smooth and dapper Mark at one of the Xmas parties! You will be missed Mark! Thank you for the endless support you have given me over the years!
Mark trained me when I started at Ocado. He made me feel was if I had known him for years. I thoroughly enjoyed working with him. He was a kind and caring person and helped me lot and other people. He was not just a manager but also a father figure who gave me a lot of advise, I could go to him for anything. He was always there to solve any problem and never said no! Mark I will miss you so much and thank you for everything you have done for me!
Gutted isn't the word when I heard the news that you had passed away Mark. We may not have seen each other as often due to Covid and all the bloody lockdowns but I always enjoyed seeing you these last few months whenever our days in the office crossed over. I'll miss you trying to ignore me as I prattled on as usual about anything and everything but just giving it away with a slight twinkle in your eye or a slight smile on your face when I managed to say something that amused you. I'll miss your warmth and helpfulness towards anyone that needed it. I'll miss us getting drunk at Xmas parties and teaming up to save colleagues from over amorous married men. But most of all, I will just miss you. My thoughts are with Sam and your family and friends. I hope that Sam knows how much she was loved by you and I hope she can take a little comfort in this moment hearing about how much you were loved by everyone you met. I hope you are at peace Mark, and until we meet again, sleep tight.
Mark always came across so welcoming and approachable. He would always say good morning every day. When I worked in recruitment, I sat by the door to the kitchen and he used to walk past me multiple times a day with a mug in hand to get a top up of tea. He would always ask how my day was going. He always had genuine interest in what I had to say and took the time to listen. I had the opportunity to work directly with him when I was in recruitment. I really enjoyed collaborating with him and found him very calming. When I moved into a secondment in the L&D team, he was so happy for me and always made an effort to ask how it was progressing. He was very kind, genuine and calm. He always had time for people and he will be missed.
Mark has always been a part of my Ocado journey since I first joined as an apprentice. He's helped guide me in my career, and was always willing to help me. He was a massively respected team member, and a role model to myself having just left school and seeing his work ethic, kindness and generosity to others. Mark was always a pleasure to work with and I can't thank him enough for shaping my growth - He will be hugely missed.
I never worked directly with Mark but I was moved by his infectious warm nature. We would cross paths in the kitchen and around the office, he was always so friendly and positive to talk to. I remember when I had been off on sick leave for quite a while and he was genuine and caring while asking how I had been. This really touched me and reflects his kindness. He was an asset to Ocado and will be sorely missed. My thoughts are with his friends and family.
I met Mark at a team meeting; he was introducing himself to the team and we had a once-around introducing ourselves back. The next time we met I was shocked that he remembered my name, and the names of the other members of the team too; but in reality it was just his nature of being kind and caring. I remember wanting to say 'Hi' at the 2019 Christmas Party and staying talking to him for so long that the people I was with that night thought I had disappeared, but it was always a great conversation with him and he was so easy to get along with. Mark will be sorely missed, my condolences to his family, friends, team and everyone who knew him.
Mark was one of life's nice guys and couldn't help but make you smile. We never worked directly together but our paths crossed over cups of tea and incoming employee queries and he always went out of his way to say hello and ask how you were. He'd chat over a cuppa despite being crazy busy, truly cared about our employees and his incredible kindness was clear for all to see. You will be missed Mark, thinking about all your family and friends at this sad time.
Mark was in the first team that I worked in and was someone who always checked in on how I was getting on with my placements around the graduate scheme. I worked with him when I was in GPS at the start of my graduate scheme, with him training me on all things Service Delivery, in which he was an expert with a vast array of knowledge! Then we worked together whilst I was in the Service Delivery HR team, where he would support me with any queries and help me through them. He was someone who would always say "good morning" when he walked past or have a chat with you if he saw you in the corridor and dedicate his time to try and help where he could. He was a lovely man and will be missed by all!
Mark would always be the first to say Good morning, he always welcomed you with a big smile and friendly face. Even though I did not work in the same team as Mark, he was always happy to help whenever I needed it and even if he couldn't solve it he would always help me find the person who could. He will be sorely missed in Ocado, especially in the People Team. He was a lovely kind man, my heart goes out to his family.
Mark interviewed me! I always remember how well he came across - calm, clear in his questions and with a dry wit that got me giggling and put me at ease. My respect for him continued to grow from that point on. I admired his encyclopaedic knowledge of Ocado; our systems and policies as well as his own experience of being a CSTM. I also marvelled at his Dr Spock-like ability to solve problems in a calm, calculated and logical manner. He was often the first to arrive in the morning and last to leave at night and took his work and responsibility very seriously. But he also had a playful, witty side and his one-line zingers made me laugh out loud. He has left a huge hole in our team. We miss him. Thank you for all you did Mark, thank you giving me my opportunity to join Ocado and for being such an excellent mentor and role model. Thank you for being not just a colleague (and an exceptional one at that) but a friend who made a very positive difference in my life.
I never had the opportunity to work directly with Mark and he sat across the office floor, however, he was someone who always wished me "good morning" on the way in or "good evening" on the way out, someone who would always strike a conversation whilst making a tea or walking down to the diner and was just a warm and friendly face to everyone. On the occasions where some of our work did cross over, he also went out his way to come up to the desk to say a thank you personally - which speaks volumes to the kind of person he was.
I was involved in recruiting Mark, and from day one he was efficient, had a keen eye for detail and willing to learn and improve our many unique ways of working. An excellent man to rely on when things were busy or extra training needed to be carried out, and certainly became a unique 'father' figure to some of the younger team, always there with advice, support or friendly words. I hadn't worked with Mark in recent months, but it was always a pleasure saying hello - and he was such a lovely man. My favourite memory of Mark was how straight to the point he was. He was once asked by a manager to do something - and the manager led in with 'You can say no' so of course Mark said no! But in seriousness, he was a dedicated employee and an asset to our team. I will miss how generous he was with his time, and willing to make Ocado a better place to work for all those he engaged with on a daily basis, not just from ways of working but a pleasant, friendly environment. His loss has been a great shock - and he will be missed.

Working with Mark was an absolute treat. He was patient and kind and always there to help when you needed. With his pictures of his family and Dog Dobby and stories of his part in the Muppets to make us smile, but even better his zinger one liners to have us all laughing and wondering did Mark just say that?! But his cheeky smile always gave him away and I'll remember that very fondly. You'll be so missed x
