Me: Matthew, let's go into Marian's room and rattle some of her bones.... Matthew: Okay, let's go and we would sit for hours chatting about everything under the sun. Fast forward. Me; We need a 4th for bridge. Matthew: Okay, let's ask Marian. .....and our bridge sessions would go through the night until dawn with much beer drinking helping us along the way. Although I haven't seen Marian in a number of years, it does not diminish the fondness that I always had for her with that lovely toothy smile, incredible keen brain and wit. Somehow, Marian was always someone whose company I so enjoyed. I mean, how could I ever forget her hearty laugh. More than that, Marian and I liked each other and she constantly complimented me. That made me feel good. She was really good with her kind words to me, so, in saying goodbye, I thank her profusely for that simple lovely gesture. As a humorous touch, I mentioned Marian's passing to my brother, David, and he said that his memories of Marian was that when he was about 9 or so, he came with Matthew and myself in accompanying, mother, Sylvia to the shops in Hillbrow. Well Sylvia wasn't the greatest driver and didn't bother to park the car properly, leaving us three kids in the car. Lo and behold, in the interim, a cop came and posted a ticket on the windshield. When Sylvia came back she was furious and David said that if she had parked the vehicle correctly this would not have happened, to which Sylvia became more irate. When we all got to the house, Sylvia mentioned what my brother had said. No one dared to question or berate Sylvia. When Marian heard it she went into uncontrollable laughter. How could anyone speak to Sylvia in that way. That was the Marian I still think of to this day. I have lots of Marian stories and only wish I could have spent more time with her. Marian made me a better person. Tons of love to the family left behind. I send you all a big embrace and my most sincere condolences. Lucien, Sergio and family
