I had the absolute privilege of being Luke’s line manager in the year or so running up to his diagnosis. He was the ‘go to’ person in the team whenever we needed some pensions thought-leadership. He was creative, engaging, and had a brilliantly dry sense of humour. He was also the only person at work who would ‘get’ an obscure Simpsons reference, and we shared many jokes about how we’d somehow ended up with large goofy dogs in our respective households. Having Luke leave the team due to ill health was horrible, but he fought to contribute to the team’s output long after being unable to physically make it to Greencoat Place. I was lucky enough to speak with Luke a few weeks ago and his positivity and acceptance of this situation was, and continues to be, an inspiration. Looking back at my WhatsApp chat history his last note was enquiring as to how I was, and apologising for not emailing me, which I think speaks volumes about his personality of putting others first. I hope Luke’s attitude and outlook on life will fortify the rest of the Harris family over the coming weeks and months. Rest well Luke, you left only good things behind.
