I am very shocked and saddened to hear of Kate’s untimely death. In fact, I am struggling to believe it can be true. Kate and I were around the same age and she was so bubbly and full of life.
We met when I joined the OFT in 2006 and spent many enjoyable times together in the choir, the panto, the quizzes and other OFT Sport & Leisure events. Kate had such a beautiful voice and was a great comedy actress. I used to tell her that she could have made a good living as an entertainer. I always tried to stand close to her in the choir, as that improved my own, far less accomplished singing.
Kate was one of those rare people who are universally liked. She brought such fun to everything and had a great ‘muck in and help with anything’ attitude. I was very sad that she had to go to the FCA, as that meant I saw her far less often but we became Facebook friends and kept in touch that way.
It is a source of comfort that Kate managed to pack a lot of enjoyment into her too short life and was happy right to the end. In particular, I know she looked forward to her trips to France to visit her Mum. When we exchanged ‘Happy Christmas’ messages, I never dreamt that would be our last contact. I feel very blessed to have been fortunate enough to have known Kate. I hope it is some consolation to her family to know how fondly the OFT community will all remember her. My thoughts and prayers are with her family.
