Never has a long overcoat, cream chinos and a pair of sunglasses, perched on a head, belting down to Blackfriars to make the 17.30 destined for St Albans - looked so bloody good.
A quiet morning in the office discussing the day’s news on the strip of carpet that separated the backs of our chairs - now an empty chair. Reams of Ray Bans, alongside enough deodorant, ‘vape juice’ and tissues to last for years - now an empty set of draws. A busy afternoon in the pub with two pints to start (never one) debating football, religion, and politics - now an empty couple of hours. The calls through lockdown on who performed well on Radio 4’s Today programme while quizzing each other on all things - now just an empty phone line. An intelligent, funny, witty, loyal, kind, and supportive man - now an empty hole.
Bella and Bobby, your dad was simply a truly incredible man. He was always a ‘go to’ for any question I had being work, the English language or wise counsel on any personal matters. His advice was always invaluable and laced with insight. The messages here provide testament to this and the many lives he indelibly touched. It was Latin football mottos that was one of your Dad’s last quizzes for me, and rather fitting his beloved Sheffield Wednesday’s ‘Consilio et Animis’ – Wisdom and Courage – is exactly what you will need in the days to come. Stay strong and remember your Dad’s immense pride in you both.
John, you never thought I would say this but today, “We’re all Wednesday Aren’t we!” #wawaw. Sleep well, you will be so sorely missed mate, Freidel x
