It is with great sadness that we learn of the news of the passing of Mr Jean Drouffe, Chief Executive Officer, AXA, Singapore and Lee Kong Chian School of Business (LKCSB) School Advisory Board member. We send our deepest condolences to Mr Drouffe’s family, relatives and staff on the demise of our beloved boss and friend. Mr Drouffe has been LKCSB’s school advisory board members since 1st November 2017.
During this time, he served the school with distinction. He participated actively and passionately in all our meetings involving Mr Drouffe. He used his wealth of experiences in the insurance and financial industries to guide our school in the development of relevant curriculum that employers in these organisations sought. Mr Drouffe was well in touch with the new skill-sets these industries were seeking for future employees and hence always encourage our students to develop skill-sets that were beyond the classrooms. He provided many opportunities for our students to gain these skill-sets in his own organisations as well as linking us up to other organisations in order for the school to have more experiential learning opportunities for our students. Mr Drouffe led the school by example, his personal involvement and passionate participations of all matters of the school reinforced all other board members’ with similar deep level of engagement for the school.
Mr Drouffe believed in developing young talents and was determined that the lack of resources (opportunities, finance and others) should not be a factor at all that limit the development of talented students. He constantly reminded our school to benchmark ourselves against the best business schools of the world and put in place similar opportunities and resources to help our students to have a good start when they graduate as well as possessing the necessary skill-sets thereafter that will allow them with continued success in their careers. He generously provided personal time and efforts to ensure students less endowed can continuously have access new opportunities.
Mr Drouffe is also a strong proponent of ethics, environment and sustainability matters. His ingrained values were that successes in business and careers should not come at the expenses of the society as well as the people and resources that one have to relied on. He spoke on sustainability passionately and encouraged the school to embed ethics, environment and sustainability issues into our curriculum so that these values are not lost on students, particularly the talented ones.
Mr Drouffe’s contributions to the school were immense, valuable and selfless. We could not have achieved so much in such a short period of time without the contributions of board members like Mr Drouffe. He will be sadly missed by all board members, faculty, staff and students of Singapore Management University School of Business.
