I first met Janos in 1996 when he took over the chair in Aachen. His enthusiasm and passion for structural geology was remarkable. For a whole generation of young PhD students and post-docs he was an inspiring example as a geology teacher. He loved the Oman mountains where we visited many outcrops during the last years. I keep many memories about our discussions in the field, about his deep knowledge on structural geology which he always shared with others and his friendship and humor.
