Janos was a hugely inspirational person with an insatiable hunger for scientific knowledge and was a true pioneer in his fields of geoscience research. He was also a very kind and generous person with high intellect and great wisdom.
I first met Janos in February 1993 in Shell Research in Rijswijk and he was a source of inspiration to me ever since that time. I have been fortunate enough to have written a few scientific papers with Janos and this geological field of research always kept us in contact. He was delighted when the citation index of our 1999 paper exceeded 200 and we planned further work together. "Welcome back to science!" he said with a smile.
Janos will live on through his vast legacy of scientific research and vast global network of friends and colleagues. Goodbye Janos, my friend.
