I have a whole generation-long memories to share, but I will start with my humble speech at James's funeral.
"First of all,I would like to say a big THANK YOU to all strong men,who carried James on his last walk!
I am deeply honoured!
I shared my life with James for the past 18 years. It was not easy at first, but after some LONG years and my determination, we understood that it is better if we took care for each other, instead of making ourselves miserable, and we did that well.
Mark, his brother, told me,that meeting me gave James a new purpose in life.
Meeting James shaped me into the stronger woman I am today.
James was the person, who always gave me the best advice, especially in relation to people. He introduced me to his friends, many of whom became my friends as well.
James knew the answers to my questions, except for the ones related to English grammar, but even then James proved to be invaluable by suggesting Sotiris as my teacher.Of course, in many occasions,he told me I should ask for my money back, since I have not learned enough. Funny Jamie!
James knew many people and I used to get annoyed with him, when, after only a night out with a new person,he was calling that person a friend in the morning. But looking around me today makes me reconsider my stand on friendship:he did have many friends, and he was a good friend for even more people.
Yesterday, when Athina,James's niece, suggested I should say something, I did not know what to say,and now I cannot stop.
James was the link between generations. He was able to talk to a child and to the grandparents of that same child about everything.
My friend Ginka called him a beacon, who showed people the way into their hearts. He was like an unpaid matchmaker, really.
For me James was the most important human being in my entire life.He was my light, and life, and love.
Yes,he was drinking a lot;yes,he smoked even more, but hey!-we are in Greece, and the word epicurean is Greek.
And I miss him like nothing else!
Peace be upon you,my darling!
Love you forever!
Thank you!
