During our growing up days interactions with Hari used to be when he used to come down to Kannur on family vacations. We used to play around a lot when we were at Manjerykandy and Aashirvad during those days. Hari used to be very bold compared to most of us and used to be up to some mischief’s all the time which we all enjoyed. Clear memories of our visit to Madras in the late seventies remain in my mind when we used spend large amount of time together. As we were the traditional lot who were not much used to the city life, he was the one who introduced to the buzz of city life. He was always full of energy and had been the brother whom you looked upon as the most daring guy among us in those days.
After joining the forces whilst under training I had on a couple of occasions taken a break journey in Chennai just to be with Hari. Those days we used the drive around the whole day in his swanky modified Fiat car and he used to take me around the city proudly showing the shops he had just started also some of his factories. Those days back home late in the evening we also used to sleep very late seeing movies on the VCR which was a rarity in the late 80s.
The routine in the forces mostly kept me off all family functions except for those that happened during the planned holidays. I could not attend Hari’s wedding due to being away on duty. However I do clearly remember that I spoke to him on the evening of his wedding day when we exchanged a few words.
Sometime in the first half of 2005, Hari was visiting Mumbai and called me after he had checked into a hotel at Colaba. I insisted to him that he should not be staying in a hotel while in Mumbai and got him to my house the next morning. He had stayed a couple of days at home and this was some good times we spent together since the childhood days. We used to take long walks at Marine Drive very late till 0200 AM in the morning and discuss host of issues, about family future etc. Probably that was the only time in life when we had a heart to heart talk on a couple of issues.
Whilst we continued with our lives both of us shared the warmth and goodwill for each other and I always considered him to be the brother who was always by the side and could be relied upon. Our interactions continued on through the years and months with the some calls and Whatsapp and Hari used to share all his thogghts.
After a long hiatus, it was in February this year that we spoke for some time and he had send me some of his old family photographs during his college days and we exchanged some pleasantries.
When I spoke to him in April, never thought that it would be the last….Tried speaking to him 02 days before he left us…but could not connect…will be dearly missed my dear brother..stay happy wherever your are..Om Shanti….peace to the soul…
