When I heard the sad news of Gerrys passing it hit me hard.
All those memories of lacrosse over the years are intertwined with Gerry cheering on and driving to watch us play all over the place.
Gerry was not only Mr. Bucks lacrosse, but a great family friend, absolute gentleman and one of a kind.
Lacrosse was in my blood when I joined Bucks as a young junior. Gerry was the life blood of Bucks juniors, coaching, encouraging and recruiting.
It was an honour and privilege to go from youthful junior to the men’s team and have the opportunity to play with Gerry in the same team when he made a rare cameo appearance.
He inevitably would patrol behind the goal, fake a shot and then slip one passed the keeper. I remember him playing when he must have been in his 60s.
Outside of lacrosse he was a true gentleman. Always enquiring on your family and would always be so happy to see you.
In 1997 he spoke at my fathers funeral and was a rock to me that day. His steady voice, kind words and the way he treated you helped me immensely on that day. I will never forget his kindness.
So many people will have words from the heart and feel a loss at Gerrys passing.
It is evidence of what a gem of a man he was.
We really have lost one of a kind.
He leaves behind a wonderful family, great lacrosse family and so memories.
Rest in peace Gerry and thank you for being you.
