Geoff Gill

August 28, 1931 - February 9, 2021

Husband to the late Lyn, who he missed greatly and brother to Ray. Following two years National Service in the Cheshire Regiment, Geoff enjoyed a long career with ICI/Astra Zeneca - he joked towards the end of last year that he ‘would have had the vaccine cracked in no time!’ First as a player and then as a renowned referee for both men’s & women’s rugby, Geoff was a much respected lifelong member of Didsbury Toc-H; whilst also being very active within the Manchester Referee's Society - holding the office of Secretary for many years. As well as his obvious passion for the oval ball, Geoff played cricket for Offerton, squash and Crown Green Bowls during his ICI days. A keen golfer but rumour abounds that he much preferred the sanctuary of the 19th hole. To escape the Manchester rain, he was a regular visitor to the sunnier climes of Ibiza where he and Lyn had their own apartment. However, he loved nothing more than being at home in Bramhall, where he lived for over fifty years, and enjoyed a pint or two with pals in their local. Always a good friend to his neighbours, Geoff will be missed by those who knew him well and those whose lives he touched.
