Working with and knowing Gareth was a total pleasure. A ‘quick work call’ was never just a ‘quick work call’, always digressing into conversations about cats (his wonderful cat, Red, the cat that wasn’t really his cat), the lottery & what we’d do if we won, and always involved him not really knowing what I was talking about after I’d sent an email to the wrong Gareth for the 20th time that day. His patience was unwavering & his dry sense of humour brightened up the most chaotic of working days. We supported each other through our first interview panel, and for someone who worked in the department for a relatively short period of time, he really did make an impression on everyone there, even from behind the laptop screen. I think that’s a true testament to the lovely, hard-working, brilliantly clever friend & colleague he was. I hope you get that windfall wherever you may be, G.
