Francesca was like a flower that, as it opens up, becomes more beautiful and complex. We first met in 2009, when we were cohorts and officemates at OIPA. I soon learned that she was an original thinker, compassionate, and ambitious in a good way, with a talent for organization and moving projects forward. Francesca was also a magnet for people, with bright, laughing, (and totally mischievous), eyes that reflected her love of life. She had suffered greatly in her past; however, she never made an issue of it or let it get in her way. After we completed our degrees and left Oxford, I was lucky to see her more personal side, following her activities and thoughts on Facebook: the celebrations in her life, small trips she took, her concern for things that affect the quality of life, her joy in friends. I remember when she got her “wings” and how ethereal she looked in them. Her life was too short, but she lived it to the fullest. I feel certain those wings will carry her to the heavens where she will continue to soar. Mi mancherai Francesca.
