My deepest sympathy goes to Lona and the family in those days. It is so hard to believe that Fons is no longer with us. He was one of my greatest mentors, both professionally and personally, and I am grateful for everything I learned from him and that we could work together for so many years - from completing my PhD under his supervision to being a postdoc and co-supervising a PhD student with him (Miriam Schwarzenthal, who has just very successfully completed). In our last e-mail exchange, just a few days before he died, we were thanking him for all his support over the years and we could share with him the good news that with this support, we both managed to move up to the next stages of our academic careers. I am so glad that he could still receive this message. His loss hurts a lot and we will deeply miss him.
