Ernie Montero

January 2, 1959 - December 29, 2020

Ernie was one of the most caring, selfless and knowledgeable people you could ever meet, and he could never do enough for you. His passion for music & sound was evident in all he did, as was his generous and kind nature. He imparted countless amounts of knowledge on colleagues and students alike and his face lit up when he was sharing his pearls of wisdom and seeing people grasp it. A dear friend, colleague and wonderful human being.

I had the honour of having Ernie as part of my viper family. Always a pleasure to spend time with and consistently making those small kind gestures that make a big difference, every gig without fail he would insist on plugging in all my equipment and packing it away for me. A small thing that Ernie did every time we gigged that left me feeling cared for, he had that way of making people feel special. Ernie picked my name for secret Santa 2 years running and each time he picked me a thoughtful generous gift clearly costing over the set amount. It was always clear that if Ernie was given the opportunity to demonstrate that he cared he went beyond. Ernie is iconic, over time he has coined a number of phrases that can only be remembered and thoroughly enjoyed if you think about exactly how Ernie would say it. So that’s how I intend to remember Ernie, as somebody who made me feel cared for and kept me smiling.
