Edward Vollering

August 10, 1967 - September 12, 2020

Uit de toespraak van zijn vrienden:.................................................................................................................................................... Edward stond altijd voor ons klaar. Verbouwingen, verhuizingen, schuttingen zetten, sjouwen.

I met Edward in Delf, at Cafe de V. In 1992, I sat in a chair, not realizing that his coat was on it. He spoke Dutch to me and I didn't understand anything because I'm Brazilian and had just arrived at NL. Thankfully he spoke English very well, as he became a great friend. He was one of the angels who took care of me while I lived in NL. Beautiful outside and inside, intelligent, sensitive, always sweet, cheerful, calm, humorous, generous, partner and kind. His smile brightened my Dutch days. It brought a serenity that ensured he was always light and deeply pleasant company.

In one of the times he came to visit me in Brazil, he showed up by surprise, with a motorcycle purchased in Manaus.

That's right: he flew from Holland to Manaus, where he bought a motorcycle that took him ALONE from there to the northeast and, as if it were the most natural thing in the world, he came down by motorcycle to Campinas.

I almost had a heart attack when I found out, just imagining the risks he took. And when I went to scold, because a friend also has to scold, he assured me that he didn't take risks since

when he stopped to sleep in the forest, he would tie the hammock high up in the trees. And he looked surprised when I reminded him that snakes climb trees.

I'm glad you didn't tell me of his plans because I certainly would have discouraged you from experiencing this adventure—which if it had a title, it would definitely be: "God protects the innocent."

And he even bragged about having sold the bike in Holambra for the amount he paid in Manaus, after having covered thousands of kilometers with it.

This happy and adventurous friend of mine, he left leaving happy memories with me and with everyone who was lucky enough to live with his solar smile.

A person who goes to great lengths to help others can only be in a great place. In the one that God keeps for good-hearted people.
