My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family of Dr. Swindale. I remember him even before he became DG of ICRISAT. I participated in a workshop organised by him at Ritz Hotel in Hyderabad as one of the participants of ICRISAT. He was Associate Director of Research at Hawaii and co-ordinate of benchmark soils project worldwide. He succeeded our first Director Dr. R.W.Cummings as Director General. He was not only a very good soil Scientist but also a very good administrator and visionary. He completed our campus buildings in a record time and we all moved to the new campus where excellent facilities for research were created. He brought in more than enough funds for research and encourage scientists to do world class research. He created a large number of jobs for Indians and made our Institute one of the largest CGIAR Institutes. In order to make ICRISAT truly global, he brought many internationally renowned scientists.
May his soul Rest in Peace.
