Okundola Agboola Bamgboye

January 13, 1962 - October 10, 2020

Dola ($) the majestic Iroko tree in the forest, a friend to many of all ages, humble, generous, full of love and laughter, supportive, the dancer and life of the party, lover of the arts and culture, family man, loyal husband and proud dad. Gone but will never be forgotten. Rest in peace our field marshal.

Dola, My childhood friend of so many decades. We connected at Mr. Essien's lesson, initially as my younger brothers' friend and then we became closer friends as we grew up because of so many childhood memories, shared even after my youngest brother passed away. These include many at our house and Bookworrm, my mum's bookshop where all our friends were always welcome to read as many comics and novels as they desired. My mum welcomed all our friends to our home and soon enough there was no age or class distinction, especially with me being the only female amongst all our male friends. Our friendship transcended into our university years as we all travelled abroad and most of us eventually returned home. We carried our friendships, love, loyalty and respect for each other into our adult lives, steadfastly maintaining the bond we had formed since childhood. I am so glad to have had the opportunity to catch up during my trips home and I'm thankful and happy to have had the pleasure of your presence during my birthday on my last trip home. I will miss you on your birthday which is in the same month as mine. I will never forget the way you called my name or the hugs we shared, pleased to see each other as brother and sister rather than as just friends. When a friend was breaking the news of your passing to me he advised me to sit first because he knew how close you, my brother and I were. It was indeed a great blow, I am glad I heeded his advice and I know my brother also took it quite hard. It has taken over a month to come to terms with your loss and I still can't believe I 'm writing about you in past tense, even though it's much easier now the reality is slowly setting in, although I don't know how the reality of never seeing you again during my next trip home would be. You were a very humble, loving, trustworthy, joyful and undiscriminating true friend, who accepted everyone for who they were. You were also a fun-loving, carefree dancer who with your presence and stature added life to any parties or social functions you graced. You touched so many lives positively and I know so many of us will surely miss you in family, friendship, work, church and social circles. You impacted the world and left a good legacy behind. My prayer is that God Almighty will give you much deserved rest and that He will give Ochee, Bidemi and your twins the fortitude to bear your loss, carrying on the touch you lit in their lives. May He also appoint as many angels here on earth to assure they do not lack any good thing in your physical absence as your spirit watches over them. I miss you bro, my darling friend and brother from another mother. Sun ire o! xxx
