How does one even begin to pay tribute to someone who has made such a massive impact... I was privileged to have met Prof Deon Meiring through Carin Hill, my research dissertation leader, and got to work with him and alongside him (he always made people feel like respected peers) as I worked towards completing my masters in industrial psychology, with the focus of my research dissertation on the "relationship harmony" construct in the South African Personality Inventory (SAPI).
I experienced his generous demeanour when I reached out to him a few years after completing my masters when I needed guidance on SJT (situational judgment testing). Within a heart beat of receiving my email, he offered to meet over a cup of coffee and shared as much research and case studies on the topic as I needed.
At SIOPSA 2019, I was privileged to attend the tribute Prof Meiring paid to Prof Fons Van Der Vijver (the other half of the SAPI brain) and was deeply moved by how beautifully you said goodbye to him Prof Deon... And now we have to say goodbye to you. Your easy smile and laughter will remain with me always, and will be sorely missed.
Thank you for all you have done for the industrial psychology profession, thank you for all you have done for me.
My deepest condolences to his loved ones.
