Denis was one of the nicest, but genuinely honest psychologists i have ever met. After interacting with Denis at various conferences in the 1980's and 90's, I felt honored to be considered a friend by Denis. One of his comments that I will always remember: "At Oxford University, there were 200 philosophers and 20 psychologists on faculty; at University of Illinois, there were 20 philosopher and 200 psychologists." I mentioned this comment frequently to my graduate students to illustrate the difference between American and English/European emphases in advanced education in psychology. He also hosted my sabbatical at the University of Toulouse in 2002/2003, for which I will be eternally grateful. It was with great sadness that I learned of his passing.
