Dawid Mazurek

September 25, 2005 - March 24, 2020

Dawid was a much loved son, pupil and friend to many and was a well-respected member of our school community. As a school we watched Dawid grow from a child into a young man, a young man with a great character and a strong personality. Dawid had so much enthusiasm for life and with so many plans for the future. He was a special person with kindness in his heart and will be sorely missed by all who knew him. We would like to invite you all to warmly remember and share your fond memories of Dawid within this online condolences book. Your memories and kind words will be a source of comfort for his family. Dawid will be greatly missed but also remembered.

I taught Dawid Maths for the majority of his time in Bathgate Academy! He was a brilliant guy who had a lot of ability and despite needing the occasional telling off when not as focused as he could be he was a good man who I had a lot of time for. He spent most break and lunch times in my room with Logan W, we often discussed Logan's liking for a ridiculous amount of sweets and fizzy drinks. Dawid spoke often about his passion for cadets and wanting to fly a plane. I am absolutely gutted by the news and have taken a long time to think of what to say. Dawid was a good man with a lot to give and I like many others feel much the poorer for his loss.

As Dawid's Head of House at Bathgate Academy, I have had the privilege of getting to know him and his quirky sense of humour during his time at school. I have watched as he developed from a quiet young boy into a confident young man who was flourishing in every sense of the word. The relationship between a pupil and teacher goes way beyond teaching and learning and after hearing the sad news about Dawid it made me reflect on the relationship that I have with my pupils. The following day I came across a meme which made me think about the relationship that I had with Dawid. Sometimes the thing your students need the most, has nothing to do with what is on your lesson plan. Never a truer word has been spoken, Dawid sat right beside my desk and more often than not lessons were started with conversations about the newest online game or with Dawid recalling a funny incident from another class. It is the little conversations that build relationships and make a lasting impact on both pupil and teacher. When I think back and remember Dawid it will always be with a smile on my face.......... You can shed tears that he is gone Or you can smile because he has lived, You can close your eyes and pray that he will come back Or you can open your eyes and see all that he has left, Your heart can be empty because you can't see him Or can be full of the love you shared, You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday Or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday, You can remember him and only that he is gone Or you can cherish his memory and let it live on, You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back Or you can do what Dawid would want: smile, open your eyes, love and go on. Dawid was a much loved, pupil and friend to many and was a well-respected member of the school community, we will never forget the wonderful young man which he had become. I would like to invite you all too warmly remember, and share your fond memories of Dawid within the online condolences book. He will be greatly missed, but also greatly remembered.
