David was special. He was held in affection and respect in equal measure. As a writer and lecturer David had an enviable ability to render even complex ideas accessible and fascinating. His generous support of others, both colleagues and students, will be long remembered; an attribute evidenced by the contributions to this page. David was a champion for young children, and many thousands of them have reason to be grateful for his influence. He was loved and is greatly missed. My deepest condolences go to the family he loved beyond words. You should have had so much more time together.
