Very sad to learn that David has left us. He was always kind, wise, and looking to test and explore ideas. I remember him as moving around surrounded by a gaggle of research students as if he was some kind of guru - which in a sense he was. A conversation with David was always entertaining and thought-provoking. He was clearly a well-respected leader in his field, but never seemed affected by that. Rather, he always gave the impression, genuine I am sure, in wanting to know what others thought and of being fascinated by everyone. He will be very much missed.
