In remembering David -- words seem but mere scratches on the surface of my soul. My deepest condolences to Sarah, the children, and all members of the Lertzman 'family'. David’s sudden and tragic passing was as inexplicable as the beauty of the man himself. I had the honour of working with him, as a colleague, on several projects during my tenure at Haskayne. He spent many many hours in my office, discussing existential topics, the meaning of existence, the role of nature, our place within the ecosystem of life. I remember his excitement over meeting his perfect angel, Sarah and his pure joy at the birth of his son. That exuberance remained when his daughter arrived. He told me often how lucky he was to have found perfection in his partner, and his two exceptional children. So many memories -- playing the African djembe together, laughing until our bellies ached, crying for no reason – at the sheer beauty, expanse and power of things unknown. I recall the magic of his music, attending his many fund-raisers, sharing stories of personal and spiritual growth. He was one of the most authentic human beings I have ever met. His strength, compassion and humour will forever stay with me, and I hope, bring comfort to others as we regain our footing.
Thank you David – for the learnings, the wisdom, the laughs and the joy. May the dimension, to which you have now crossed, embrace you and lead you to your next destination. I sense you have much more to do. Like so many others left here, in this realm, I will miss you. Godspeed my friend.
