David Campbell

March 21, 1957 - October 8, 2021

David was a long term member of The San Roque Club and captain in 2017. He was part of the DNA of San Roque and a larger than life character who had a great knack of making people feel special and welcome. Those who were not lucky enough to know him will most likely have heard a tale or two about his sense of humor and how he always seen the funny side of things. David will be sorely missed.

One of the fiercest Matchplay competitors you’ll ever meet; One of the first to arrive at the bar and always One of the last to leave the bar; One of the greatest members and captains that San Roque will ever have; One of life’s true gentlemen; DC, you were truly One of a Kind and the world is a poorer place for losing you. Rest in Peace partner...

When David stepped in to be Captain in 2016/17 we really didn’t know each other very well but it didn’t take long to realise that we were going to have a fun year! He had an effortless ability to make you feel special and was always a true gentleman. DC you are so missed by everyone but we will all treasure the wonderful memories.

Love this photo of DC and I (curtesy of Ruth Bailey). It sums it up for me nicely. DC was one of the reasons I started playing golf and joined the San Roque Club. He was always encouraging, fun to play with, an entertainer, (especially sprigging on the 2nd hole) and above all a true gentleman. I will miss you very much old boy❤️

I enjoyed some good times with David; match play, (I lost) his Captains Tour, La Finca and his Captain’s dinner at the Casino. My abiding memory is agreeing to play snooker with him at the club. He disappeared to his car and came back with personalised cue and Dennis Taylor glasses. He thrashed me and I was inevitably 20 euros lighter. He will be very much missed by me and my family on our summer visits to SRC

I’ll never forget the kindness David showed during his captaincy year along with Debbie Richards and Frank O’Hara and members of the San Roque Club in helping raise funds and complete a mini golf project at Hogar Betania. David worked particularly hard as a Star Auctioneer, auctioning off many great prizes which helped me reach the target to complete the project. There’s so much goodness that goes on in our San Roque Golf community and David really was a shining star within it. Keep shining your light David. You’ll always be remembered, my goodness we had some laughs!!!

DC’s birthday lunch earlier this year at Cancha Dos. My favourite golf partner, I miss you so much. Thank you for you all your time you spent with me on the course and for your putting expertise! It was always a pleasure to play with you ❤️

He could hit his putter off the tee box further than I could hit my pitching wedge. As I knew to my cost a few times. A gentleman, a character, a great golfer and truly a friend who will be sorely missed. Rest In Peace

A dear friend, proud captain, and ambassador for the San Roque Golf Club. In the words of Harry Belafonte……..actually I don’t know any Harry Belafonte lyrics……I don’t think you ever did either DC… Never again will we hear your gentle goat impressions as we leave a putt short, and you are telling us “It’s still Ewe”… We will never find out who Carruthers really is…. We will never really know exactly what is was that “never happened in my day”… We will never know where all those ‘Frogs’ came from…. We will never know the true location of the church where the bells go “Ding Dong”, and for as long as we all live, we will forever be raising another glass of something to you….. simply because “I don’t mind if I do” Gone but never ever forgotten

David was the essence of a good club member. He was a super captain who always welcomed fellow members on their return to the club. Most enjoyable to play with. He will be missed. RIP.
