This terrible news profoundly saddens me. Over the last few years, I have worked closely with Darren in research and teaching and discovered his personal and technical greatness. He had such a massive impact on my research group that he became an author of our last two publications to reinforce how vital his contributions have been to the microsystems research group. In addition, during teaching labs, I learned a bit about his life and his passion for travelling and inter-rails through Italy and Europe. He will be missed by many people in the School and all the students and researchers he helped in many years here in Newcastle.
