Dan and I became friends when my family relocated in 1990, my dad, then a staff of IRS (now GRA), was transferred to Accra and we lived in the IRS enclave in East Cantonments. I enrolled into the same school where Dan and his siblings (Richard & Dora) also were. Being new to the school and class (Primary 4) Dan ensured I was comfortable and introduced me to his friends (Puplampu, Enoch etc). We became close friends and were seen together most of the time. Whether it was a game of piloloo, hide-and-seek or climbing the coconut and tropical almond trees, or taking tests and exam at school, Dan was good at what he did and certainly had some majestic touch, that was the genesis of the name Cocotee back in JHS. Dan & I were in the same class from primary 4 through to JHS 3, we were both in the spelling bee and drama (By the Fireside) teams at Kotoka JHS and after BECE we were both admitted to Adisadel College in 1997. We both joined Knight House and as fate would have it, we were both placed in the same class, from SHS 1 to SHS3. After Adisadel we both received admission into the University of Ghana and though we had just a course in common we saw each other occassionally on campus. Daniel was an exceptional leader, he led by example, very fair to all, did not discriminate and was firm. He love family as he loved sports (tennis and football) and Daniel took me through my first lessons in tennis back in the day at East Cantonments. I owe my interest in tennis to Daniel, we played occasionally at Adisadel and even more frequently when we entered Legon.
After Uni however, work took Dan out of Accra and though we would occasionally chat we couldn't keep in touch regularly. During the death of my parents late last year, we reconnected again as I had not seen Dan in years. We started chatting again. To hear of his sudden demise the morning of 23rd May 2020, was a SHOCK! The Lord knows best however.
A great loss to us, a great loss to his family a great loss to the Santclausian fraternity.
Fare thee well brother. Dan, requiescat in pace!
