Chris Haworth

August 2, 1946 - January 9, 2021

Dad was the rock of the family, the brains of the bunch. Always in the know and always on hand to help and support. He had a no-nonsense approach to life and was an incredibly generous individual. After a horrible fight with Covid he has left this earth and is smiling down from heaven at us all. We are all so heart broken Dad, but we will persevere and get through this together. Rest in peace. Love you.

I will cherish the memories of Chris during our Tea Planters Tour in India in November 2018. We had such a lovely group of people which helped make the tour so enjoyable. This photo was taken of us at the rather fabulous Diphlu River Lodge in Assam where we went on safari in Kaziranga National Park. Such a kind hearted man who had clearly found his soul mate in Marigold xx

Here’s a picture of Josie and her ‘Bride oars’ as Chris called us. He managed a whole hour with all of us girls in a small boat and afterwards said to me, ‘Well...that was actually rather fun’!!!

Definitely a sad day. We were always guaranteed much generosity and laughs on every visit or even just a chat. Chris was a wealth to anyone he spent time with. Here is my favorite snap of him... https://photos.app.goo.gl/4tqV3QXwpDV83FmQ6

Chris was one of those larger than life characters that would cut to the chase in the first few seconds of every conversation, there was no hiding from him and many people on here know how it felt to be under his microscope. He had that incredibly rare, clever, dry wit that would have those around him in fits of laughter and disbelief, I absolutely loved his sense of humour. He would despair at our silly escapades, we would be 5 girls squeezed into Cherry with a mattress going on some adventure and he would just laugh and wait for the inevitable stories. I’ve enjoyed many a cup of tea, breakfasts, lunches and dinners at Holly Lodge, being in the company of the Haworth family is something I’ve missed so much this year. I have so many memories of Chris, a recent one that I’ll never forget is how he looked at Josie when he saw her in her wedding dress, he was so proud. That day was incredibly special and Chris played a huge part. He probably thought once he’d married Josie off to Tom that he would see less of us loud girls so when it came to Josie’s baby shower, after an afternoon of screaming women he rang a bell to tell us it was time of get out – otherwise we’d never leave. Marigold and Chris have that effect on everyone. I can’t believe it took him so long to use that bell! I’ll think of you often, Chris. Marigold, Hennie, Robbie & Josie – sending you so much love, you’re the most amazing family and I can’t wait to give you a hug, drink tea and remember such a great man xxx
