I met Daniel on a few occasions in the work place (as both of us work in related organisations) and he always greet me with a gentle and warm smile. Although our conversations were brief, he would show concern on how I am coping at home, and always asked if I had any prayer request.
We had more extended conversation in 2016, when Daniel was leading the Mission Comm. Daniel is a humble leader who rolls up his sleeve and gets himself involved in the details. Before our SQ trips, he would ask me for specific trip details and consolidate prayer requests from the team. Administrative procedures like the submission of personal details to MFA e-Register and claims are tasks that I dreaded and left to last minute, and Daniel will always come to my rescue.
He took the effort to gather our personal details through e-Form and submitted on our behalf. After the trip, he eased our effort by filling up the claim forms for us. You can imagine the challenges involved as some of the receipts were either crumpled or the Chinese words were difficult to decipher. Although he was new to the Mission Committee at that time, Daniel made an effort to understand the challenges faced by the team and co-workers in SQ. He was especially concerned when we had issues with the local Authorities 2 years ago. After the trip he took time to check with me on the well-beings of the young adults who had gone for the trip, so as to make sure that they were not traumatized by the event. These are the things that Daniel did quietly behind the scene.
Daniel was among the pioneers who was actively involved in Renggit ministry, and he faithfully served with the ministry for almost 10 years. His heart continues to be with the ministry even though he took a break in 2015. If we bumped into each other at the Cozy Corner on Sunday, he would ask about the church in Renggit, and his eyes literally lit up whenever I showed him the photos of the kids from my handphone. He marveled at how much they had grown and gave thanks that many continue to keep their faith despite challenges.
Here is a video montage that was created 3 years ago, in appreciation of the Renggit ministry. Many of us have fond memories of working with Daniel in this ministry. Let me dedicate this video to Christine and the family, as we cherish the wonderful memories of Daniel and the seeds that we had sown together.
