I first met Daniel at our church camp (Sabana Cove) in 2005. When we were out for an activity, he caught my attention when I saw him disciplining Elizabeth (who was then probably about 2) at a side. He was firm in his voice (not even loud) and looked at her sternly (actually I thought that look was quite frightening). And he sure impressed me as a dad!
Before Covid, where we still met to worship in Church, I would always see him in the church office after service sorting out claims for Missions Comm. And this happened almost every week without fail. What a faithful and diligent labourer!
And ever since he became a deacon of Missions Comm, he would always be at the airport to send the Mission trippers off (as we always sent KS or Gracia). I was impressed cos he does not drive, and Changi Airport is far east whereas he lived in Bukit Timah and his workplace was at Buona Vista. What commitment!
On various occasions, I would meet him at wakes, and I’d have the opportunity to talk to him. Daniel although seen as quiet would never fail to engage in meaningful conversations whether about church ministries or about children. And I really appreciated those times where I got to know him better. He was definitely a person with depth and not just a “Hi and bye!” person.
I’ll miss seeing Daniel in the church office when covid is over and church is opened once again. I’ll miss seeing him at the airport when I next go to send one of my family members on a mission trip. I’ll miss meeting him at wakes when we have had meaningful conversations. But one thing I’m sure, that I’ll see Daniel again.
