My grandad, the reason I learnt to read music before I could properly read (or so he'd always tell me). Many many memories with far too little space to share them all. Just a few that come to mind: 1) Getting really drunk on JD because he was buying doubles at the bar... 2) Knobbly knees competition upstairs in the beach side pub in Hornsea 3) The lions in the park Hornsea and being lifted up to sit on their backs 4) Being given money for the slot machines and the bingo machines. Every night we'd come back and he'd write down in his little book every penny we'd spent so I could see what I'd spent down to the last penny. 5) Story time, especially the voices. 6) Walking the dog through the cowpat fields 7) Going to band practise in the car and coming home stinking of pipe smoke (literally stinking!!!) 8) "You need to know your scales. You need to know your scales!" 9) Valve oil? You don't need that rubbish - He then proceeds to lick the valves on the instrument.....
