I know Ron would have wished to comment here so I pass on some of those memories, warm, tender and fresh as though no time at all had passed since those teenage years. When Ron spoke of Bill, his face would lighten and a smile would increase often to laughter, always with affection. They both belonged to that ‘Band of Brothers’ - the 5th Romford Scout Troop. Tales of the friends’ escapades were rollicking and happy. Bill was known for his ready wit and ability to expand a joke/tale into hilarious epics. I remember also remember a teenage Bill, twinkly eyed and never serious for long. A tale of him arriving back to school after the summer break, just in time for the headmaster to send him straight home again to shave off a wild beard! Also sent home again for arriving late driving the family car at a time when teachers rarely had cars. Memories that make me smile again. My condolences to you both, Carol and John
